31 Years Young
July 11th, 2007

That’s how I choose to look at it - yes, I’m 31 today. Sigh. But it’s just a number, right? Besides, numbers can mean anything. For instance, 31 perfumes. That’s a lot! So here’s a list of my favorite 31 perfumes (in no particular order, although, a Guerlain girl at heart, I’ll list those first):
- Metallica/Matalys by Guerlain
- Guet-Apens/Attrape Coeur by Guerlain
- Apres l’Ondee by Guerlain
- Voilette de Madame by Guerlain
- Bois d’Armenie by Guerlain
- Iris Ganache by Guerlain
- Cuir Beluga by Guerlain
- Rose Barbare by Guerlain
- Plus Que Jamais by Guerlain
- Vol de Nuit by Guerlain
- Diorama by Christian Dior
- Eau Noire by Christian Dior
- Bois d’Argent by Christian Dior
- Drole de Rose by L’Artisan Parfumeur
- Fleur de Narcisse by L’Artisan Parfumeur
- Iris Poudre by Frederic Malle
- Lipstick Rose by Frederic Malle
- Muscs Koublai Khan by Serge Lutens
- Rose de Nuit by Serge Lutens
- Tubereuse Criminelle by Serge Lutens
- La Myrrhe by Serge Lutens
- L’Air de Rien by Miller Harris
- Rose en Noir by Miller Harris
- Black Oud by Montale
- Oud Roses Petals by Montale
- Oud Damascus by Montale
- Chanel 22
- Chanel Coromandel
- Chanel Coco parfum
- Orris Noir by Ormonde Jayne
- Feminite du Bois parfum by Shiseido

Happy birthday, Ina! Thirty-one is so very, very young. In the 24 years since I was 31 I’ve lived a lot! And to think you’re starting that journey with such an excellent fragrance wardrobe.

Happy Birthday, Ina… Yes, 31 is yong also by my standards… Think of it this way: each year you’re adding one extra favorite to your list!
As a footnote: if you don’t already own a Metalys full bottle, now’s the time. They’re discontinuing it in September, the swines (yes, it’s Guerlain, but they’re swines for doing that).

Oh, Ina, Happy Birthday!! You are STILL just a baby - and that picture is adorable! Of course, I say that because you look a little like me when I was that age.
Nice list - your tastes are so different from mine, but you have turned me on to Guerlains at last, so I guess we both have good taste now.

Happy birthday, little one! How lucky you are to have become a perfumista at a young age - hopefully you’ll have fun with fragrances for many decades to come! And, even better: good health and true joy daily!

Happy, Happy Birthday, beautiful one !
I love that little girl.
I love the bigger one, too.
Be loved, cherished, and joyful, my dearest…

Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tosses Metalys scented confetti! Hope this upcoming year is the most fantastic yet.
*Love* that picture of you. Your expression is priceless.
Gotta laugh at seeing the “paint like” Diorama on your list.

Happy birthday, Ina! Have a wonderful, blissful day.
(And, now I’m thinking that in Noevember I’ll have to produce a list of 37 loved fragrance. I’m not sure what more scary: the number or knowing that I can easily come up with a list)

Joyeux anniversaire!!!!!
I do hope someone would offer you, specially you as a Guerlain lady, the Vendredi d’Initiation aux Parfums I had at Guerlain, 68 Champs Elysées last friday… It was the last one of the season, and I was so lucky and happy to be there… am still very high on my little vaporously perfumed cloud! And imagine that kiddies above seven can go there every wednesday to start learning and playing and making scents. Mine were oriental based, sort of Vega like ! It was one of the sunniest days in my life…

HAPPY BDAY INA!! My mom’s birthday too today. Funny, I’m turning 31 tomorrow and I love most of the scents that you have posted…what are the odds? Maybe it’s a cancer-sign thing?

Happy Birthday, Ina! I think a 30’s are a woman’s best years, so enjoy! I hope you will be especially well-loved and pampered today.
I’m a fellow member of the July birthday club (22nd for me), and of the Guerlain-girl club. I’ve been loving Chamade, Sous le Vent and Chant d’Arome this summer, although Vol de Nuit will always be my #1.

28. sweetlife | July 13th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Oh my, I’m late to the party, but just have to say Happy Birthday! And also to tell you that every woman I know over 31 agrees with me that you couldn’t PAY us to do our twenties over again. The thirties for women means finally knowing what we want and how to get it — and waaaay less drama.
Have fun in New York! I hope you and Marina can catch the Poiret exhibit at the Met.
