Hey folks, there is no reason for a perfumista to ever be mosquito bait. Haven't you discovered yet that all perfumes seem to repel them?

Flora, what a wonderful evocative post! Datura Noir is indeed amazing and so perfect for summer heat. I have so many memories from my childhood spent at the beach... but not oflactory images, other than perhaps an occasional bonfire. Ah...

Thanks everybody! It has been so hot here I could not stop thinking about this one. :-p

Aline, so glad you are rediscovering it!

Quelnomdeplume, I am sure it is very elegant on you! ;-)

Thanks, carmencanada. I can't grow it here, not enough weeks of heat, but we can do moonflowers, and the giant moths come to visit them too. So fun to watch!

Gail & Marina, so sorry it's not good on you! It can be touchy, that I can tell, but I am lucky that I can wear it. It is certainly not for everyone, and it kind of surprised me that I could pull it off.

Elle, me too! Especially the young Elizabeth Taylor version of Maggie. :-) And yes, Patou For Ever is wonderful - it and Colony are the only pineapple scents I will ever want or need.

Jennifer, the Le Couvent has gotten a lot of new fans since it appeared in a blogger's review - I think it was on Victoria's Own that I first read about it, and I just love the stuff. Who knew Bath & Body Works would have something that good! I would love to try the Fleurs d'Osmanthus too, sounds like a great summer scent.

tmp00, I can totally relate - mosquitoes LOVE me, they come from miles around! Must be cuz I am so sweet... :-D
I had to spend all my time in the water, no sitting on the beach or they would get me. I am an excellent swimmer as a result.

I love the review- even if I was not crazy about Datura Noir. I may have to give it another whirl though.

I grew up in New England as well, and I can relate to the lake- we spent time at the shore and time at a lake pretty equally. I actually liked the lake better- for some reason I didn't get as burnt at the lake as I did at the shore. More trees. Of course there were more mosquitos...

Love Les Couvents de Minimes Orange Blossom (I have a second bottle yet to be used) and Datura Noir (I like to compare it to a jungle under a cold winter moon). Another substitute for it is the the little bit greener Fleurs d'Osmanthus by Keiko Mecheri.

Datura Noir doesn't like me. In fact, it hates me. Smells like laundry detergent on me, seriously :-(
Love the article!

I much prefer Maggie to Blanche. :-) Datura Noir is perfect in the summer and perfect in deepest winter for reminding me that summer still exists.
Have not worn Colony yet this year. Serious oversight. Must amend. I also love the parfum version of For Ever, its grandchild.

I meant "deceased" of course. Mix-up with the French word "décédé"... Mind you, he was very "decided" too.
