(Partial) Fairwell to Dzing!
June 28th, 2007
It has come to my attention L’Artisan Parfumeur has stopped production of the 50 ml size of the cult Dzing! fragrance. At some point, the large 100 ml bottles will be gone, too. Wah! Yes, I’m totally affiliated and consider it my duty to notify my fellow perfume maniacs!

I am horrified and dismayed! Dzing! is one of my favorite perfumes in history. Can we change their minds? Or is this a method of selling a whole lot of Dzing! ?

Waaaaah!:(

A travesty! Why, oh why, oh why? They better not mess with Jour de Fete, which is already hard to find and seems to be a L’Artisan boutique exclusive mostly. And they better keep Safran Troublant in production, too. Dzing is such a unique one! Bad decision, I think.

I can’t I won’t believe it!

Absolutely ridiculous. THE most original perfume in the line and they get rid of it. *bursts into tears* Don’t they know it is my holiest holy grail and my No1? Arrgh.

I think I will bow my head in respect of the others’ opinions. I will keep my mouth shut and my opinions to myself. But my opinions just broke out the cake and started to dance. What’s that music in the background? “Goodbye, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye. . .” Hmm, never liked the song, either.

It is indeed a shame, and I don’t know the reasoning behind this. I’m just glad the large size is still being produced. What a sad day for all of us.

This is tragic. I obviously need to stockpile. *mutters*

I am literally in shock. This one is so beloved among those who do like it that it is almost like a cult fragrance.

are they nuts? it’s one of their best, most intriguing, and longest-lasting scents!! what is the deal - is it a question of sourcing materials, or are they making room for something else? why axe anything at all?

Hi Ina! (I met you today at the L’Artisan boutique - you were so sweet and informative! thank you!) I am sorry for those who love Dzing - it seemed very well loved. But on my skin, it smells like a barnyard.
12. Ina | June 29th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
Minette, yes, making room for something else is usually the main reason. We shall see!

Sarcon, it was so nice to meet you! You should come again.

Oh no! Not Dzing! Hasn’t this been rumoured before? Although this time, with you saying it, I guess it’s not a rumour anymore… I see my first niche bottle purchase approaching.

No!! No, no, NO! I read rumors of this last spring, asked at the L’Artisane boutique in Soho & they assured me I’d been misled. I *so* wanted to believe them!!! This is really sad.
Dzing is the scent that started my foray into scent (ignoring my dabblings as a 20something) & is the bottle I go back to always as “my scent”. I suppose I need to stockpile, which is also sad since last week I splurged on a bottle of Cuir Ottoman & don’t really have the cash for another bottle of anything now. Damnit.

Send them 50,000 lbs. of peanuts! It worked for us! It is circus-themed, after all…

I’ve been a ghost-reader for a long, long time, but I must write about my dismay upon hearing of the impending demise of Dzing! I mourn the loss of true genius and pure, unadulterated creativity within the world of fragrance. As we all know, fragrance is one of the finest human arts, especially because it so directly affects every sense of our beings. Losing Dzing! and others of this creative magnitude closes a door to our imaginations and longings for new experiences. After wearing Dzing! I swear I would never experience a circus in the same way. It is through the nose of someone so much more olfactorily brilliant than I, that my experience of a circus (not one I can say I like at all) became an epiphany. Dzing! added LIFE to my idea of a circus, and helped me see a circus as something fascinating in a completely new way.
I’m afraid I’m moaning ad nauseum. Thank you for this wonderful blog, which is an uplifting part of my daily life. I truly enjoy it, and I am not always this negative. I am just SO so sorry that Dzing! is leaving us.

Tove, Divalano, and Tovah, I hear ya! Sorry to be the bearer of such grave news… at least we still have the large size to love and cherish. I absolutely agree with you, Dzing! is one of the most unique scents of all times. It simply cannot disappear.

not liking that news at all…
20. Susan Wylie | February 20th, 2008 at 5:56 am
I see the smaller size is still available - but you American’s get Dzing with the ugliest lids. Who let the Yanks loose on a redesign??? Grrr!
21. eric Saeter | April 26th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
I don’t think the lid is bad in the US. It’s a nice solid brass, 6-sided affair with a good weight. What’s it like from Paris?
Is there any real validity to to the cancellation of Dzing!? Perhaps, as the niche scent Dzing has become, it just makes sense for L’Artisan to produce it in 100ml instead of 50?
I just can’t face that Dzing may one day not exist. I have even written them a letter. . .
