New Parfum D’Empire Fragrances

June 24th, 2007

Parfum D’Empire, known for its perfumes as odes to historic events or characters, will launch three new fragrances in September: Osmanthus Interdite (Forbidden Osmanthus) inspired by the Chinese empire, blending osmanthus and green tea with a hint of leather; Fougere Bengale (Bengal Fern), “a fragrance of mosses and hay warmed up with the mouthwatering allure of gingerbread… a veritable tiger hunt in Queen Victoria’s India”; Equistrius, an homage to horses, sacred to the ancient Romans, “an ambry-woody fragrance built around an iris and ambrette-butter accord shaded with accents of sandalwood and soupcon of chocolate” (Osmoz.com). I’m particularly excited about the horse scent, believe it or not. I bet it’ll be really good, considering how much I love Cuir Ottoman (one of the best, “raw” leathers ever). Iris seems to be the note du jour - what will be next?

These all sound wonderful! The scents I’ve sampled from this line have become favorites, esp. Ambre Russe. This is a launch to look forward to; thanks for posting it.

I’m right there w/ you - have very high hopes for the horse scent. And I should know better than to ever be hopeful about an osmanthus perfume, since I always end up feeling let down when I sniff them and realize that, yet again, they’re not even remotely replicating the gorgeous scent of the osmanthus bushes around here, but I am hopeful w/ this one. Foolishly so, but hopeful.

These are all on my “must-try” list! Parfums d’Empire has earned my respect as a safe haven from the avalance of inocuous fruity-florals being released by so many other houses. Even from famous houses that start with an “H” and I still want to love, but whose latest release promised to be a floral leather, only they forgot to add the leather. Not naming any names, of course. :-\

“Osmanthus and green tea with a hint of leather” sounds like something Ellena might do. Fougere Bengale, with its gingerbread, now sounds like Une Crime Exotique. And Equistrius sounds similar to Cuir Ottoman :-) I know for a fact I will not like the osmanthus one. I bet I will love Fougere Bengale. :-)

Drat, I’d noted down that these were due out in June, so I’ve been nursing a sense of quiet excitement. Cuir Ottoman was my thunderbolt discovery last year, so that iris one tantalises me. But three months to wait, groan….

    Wheeeee!

Parfum D’Empire Cuir Ottoman is my hands down favorite these days & I’m awaiting the new scents impatiently. In fact I’ve been impatiently awaiting a bottle of Cuir Ottoman from Aedes for over a month. Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan works well on me & the idea of osmanthe plus leather is enticing. And I am curious about the horse scent as well. Not sure I can wear gingerbread (thinking Yosh Ginger Ciao) but would love to sniff anyway.

Can’t wait for the fougere. I’m a big fan of hay and mosses, but I’m not sure how the gingerbread fits into all that. But it sounds worth a try in any case! (They all do).

Oh my, these sound like must-haves for me, especially the horse one! If it evokes the warm, sweet aroma of a horse’s skin it will be SO addictive! It’s probably my favorite smell in the world, even more than any flower or spice.

Elle, I’m yet to smell real osmanthus, so I can’t really know the difference. I’m still hoping all of these will be good.

Rosarita, I also love Ambre Russe. One of the best amber scents ever. Hope these don’t disappoint!

Anne, not to name any names, by any means, the H house has indeed promised too much. Considering the previous few releases by the same nose for the said H house, it’s not surprising leather is in fact missing in action in this new release (which I’m yet to smell).

Marina, you never know, baby. I’ve also wondered if Equistrius will be like CA. We shall see!

  • 14. Ina  |  June 25th, 2007 at 11:11 pm

Nina, in some ways I’m glad they’re coming out in September when it’s not as hot and humid (speaking for myself here), plus fall releases always seem to excite me more. :)

    Leo, whoopee!

  • 16. Ina  |  June 25th, 2007 at 11:13 pm

Divalano, I assume Aedes is out? Hope you get it soon! I quite like Osmanthe Yunnan, too, but I find it a bit too watered down for my tastes, and I adore Ginger Ciao. ;)

  • 17. Ina  |  June 25th, 2007 at 11:14 pm

SniffQ, they do, don’t they? Ah, September, come soon!

  • 18. Ina  |  June 25th, 2007 at 11:15 pm

Flora, really? I’m afraid I’m not sure I’m familiar with the smell of horse’s skin but you make it sound so appealing! I can’t wait to try the perfume.

  • 19. Solander  |  June 26th, 2007 at 6:20 am

The warm, sweet, addictive aroma of horse’s skin, that’s Guet-Apens for me! Can’t wait to try a fragrance that does that on purpose… And the fougere/gingerbread one? Mmm…

  • 20. Judith  |  June 26th, 2007 at 8:02 am

    HORSES-R-US!!! Can’t wait:)

  • 21. Ina  |  June 26th, 2007 at 8:41 am

Tove, I just wore Guet-Apens to bed last night! I so adore it.

  • 22. Ina  |  June 26th, 2007 at 8:41 am

    Judith, LOL!!!

  • 23. violetnoir  |  June 26th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

I love iris, and osmanthus, too! These should be very interesting.

    Hugs!

  • 24. Ina  |  June 26th, 2007 at 5:42 pm

Robin, I have high hopes they will be!

It’s been a while since any perfume release news seem to give me thrills.lol

Osmanthus is truely divine when in blossom. These tiny flowers give off a heady sweet aroma while never being overwhelming. There is a certain soft almost wood-like bitterness that modifies the sweet scent and keeps the scent fresh w/out being green or sharp. If there is such category I’d want to put it in a seperate category of its own, maybe along with plumeria, as “yellow florals” if that makes any sense.

It lacks headiness or sharp edges and I can certainly see how it’s difficult to work with in perfumes. Perhaps the reason why nothing that boasts an osmanthus note never remotely captures the essence of this flower. For those who’s never experienced living osmanthus, dried osmanthus can be found easily on the net sold as a tea at reasonable prices. Check for twigs and bits of leaves, high quality osmanthus tea shouldn’t have much in them as these lend towards a more bitter taste. Consume it in an infusion, tie a mesh bag-ful of this and throw it in a jar of icing sugar to make osmanthus sugar, tie a little bag and try it in your tub, or burn it like incense. This is truely an intoxicating flower I can’t be without, and the dried stuff is the best I can find.(Now you’d wish orange blossom is sold the same way)

Nereis, good to see you here! :)
Wow! I just learned tons of amazing info on osmanthus. Thank you! I always sort of associate its scent with apricots. Is that close? I’ve never smelled the real flower…
