When The Rain Comes – It Pours
June 11th, 2007
Just as I thought I was all lemming-free, here comes the rain – the new Quand Vient La Pluie (When The Rain Comes) by Guerlain. According to Osmoz.com, it’s composed as a “prose poem”, “a fresh, powdery-ambry melody built around heliotrope and violet, with nuances of rosemary, praline and sambac jasmine”. Quite a versatile array of notes, and I’m a bit sceptical on that praline note. The perfumer is Thierry Wasser (Dior Addict, Lancome Hypnose as well as Iris Ganache, another new release by Guerlain), and the bottle is “the shape of a raindrop set upside-down on a base etched with the veins of a leaf” (the picture doesn’t really do it justice, it seems). Available at Maison Guerlain – whether it’ll arrive in the U.S., I’m not sure.

Well, it couldn’t be a more beautiful name/concept — but it sounds sort of … tentative, doesn’t it? And what are they going to do with violet/heliotrope that will be different enough to be worth it? And the praline thing is scaring me a little.
Dang. I can’t believe I still haven’t been to the Mother Ship in Paris. Sigh…. ps, thanks for the pkg! Very much enjoying.

Heliotrope, praline, violet. I think I am safe here

Does it really need the praline note? I mean, come on, Thierry. I’m a little skeptical of the heliotrope too. The “powdery-ambry melody” sounded good enough, but the rest, I’m not too sure about.

The rosemary concerns me. I smell it every time I go into my garden, but it’s not a note I want in a perfume. And praline. And heliotrope. Not notes that fill my heart w/ joy. But it does have jasmine and it is Guerlain, so I remain very hopeful. Also, I *love* that bottle. Don’t think I want to know the cost, though.

Well, this will be something else to smell in Paris. But the notes don’t sound promising. And I am not fond of the other perfumes he created. . . .

March, I know, I know… I’m becoming more and more sceptical. Sigh. That darn praline.
Glad you got the pkg! Looking forward to your thoughts.

But you never know.

Minsun, I feel like every new release has to be sweet. Come on, Guerlain! Don’t give in to this (hopefully, passing) trend.

Elle, ther rosemary in this case actually gives me hope – it might make the whole composition interesting, for lack of better word.

Judith, that’s a warning sign, for sure. Addict, Hypnose – nice, noteworthy scents but on the sweet side.
How fun about your Paris trip! I can’t wait to hear all about it.

Robin, your cheerfulness is encouraging!

OK, so I went to the kitchen and took some pecans, poured melted butter over them, chopped up some rosemary into atom-smashing particles, dusted the pecans with the rosemary and put some brown sugar over them. Dash of salt. Cooked ‘em at 350 till done. Smelled wonderful. Tasted even better. Did not eat in rain. Heliotrope? Myeh.

SniffQ, LOL! Heliotrope isn’t what scares me here – it’s the praline. He also put praline in Iris Ganache which I’m hoping to retest soon. My first impression wasn’t too favorable.

[...] to be a (mini) review, and here I am digressing like there’s no tomorrow. So, perfume. As reported earlier, a Guerlain maniac as myself has been anxiously awaiting the release of Quand Vient La Pluie [...]
