Angel: Behind The Scenes
May 14th, 2007
There’s a fascinating article about the creation of Angel in the Osmoz.com May newsletter. “While Angel may be one of the best-selling perfumes in the world today, its creators had to struggle every step of the way to make their dream come true.” It talks about the Angel’s Tour Truck (I had no idea it even existed!) that looks like a spaceship. In reference to my earlier post on the role of marketing in perfume, when it comes to Angel, I think the marketing approach is simply brilliant and is a huge contributor to the success of the fragrance. Angel is one of the few fragrances that I often feel tempted to get reunited with after simply seeing the bottle in a store or smelling its ingenuous aroma on others (as overpowering as it might be). I’ll leave you with just this for today as I go spritz on some Rose Angel.

I’ve always admired TM for how innovative this fragrance was when it first came out. I’d love to see more designers fight that hard to defend original ideas for fragrances now. I was truly sorry to see that TM appears to have suffered from seriously shrunken cojones w/ the release of the yawn inducing Alien.

I agree with Elle.
Funny you should post this, Ina, because I was thinking about Angel last night.
I remember how exciting it was to sniff a fragrance that was totally original, whether or not one liked it. I would love to see another designer come out with a groundbreaking fragrance like Angel.
Hugs!

Thanks for pointing out a nifty read. On me Angel is WMD material, but reading the article I can appreciate the work that went into it as well as the bottle from concept through manufacture. Often those sort of aspects of perfumery, the technical bits and hurdles required to create the illusion of effortlessness, are the most fascinating bits.

Elle, I completely agree with you on both counts. Angel was a true star (pun intended), and Alien is quite a disillusion.

Robin, I’d very much love to see more original creations of the same caliber, too. I’m not giving up hope yet.

Funster, you’re so right. I still can’t get over the Angel Tour Truck.
