My Top 25

April 16th, 2007

It’s become a yearly tradition on the fragrance board of Makeupalley to conduct the Top 25 Favorite Perfumes survey. I didn’t participate this year, and to make up for my negligence I’ll list them here (good excuse!) Lists are never fun when it comes to perfume for there’s no way I can ever limit myself to a meager quantity of 25. Neither am I willing to provide any sort of ranking for my fragrant soul is ever so capricious. Here goes, in no particular order, my top 25 as of today, Tuesday, April 17, 2007 (I feel like I should add the time but I’ll refrain):

  1. Guet-Apens/Attrape Coeur by Guerlain
  2. Metallica/Metalys by Guerlain
  3. Bois d’Armenie by Guerlain
  4. Apres l’Ondee by Guerlain
  5. Eau Noire by Christian Dior
  6. Bois d’Argent by Christian Dior
  7. Diorama by Christian Dior
  8. Miss Dior (in parfum) by Christian Dior
  9. Muscs Koublai Khan by Serge Lutens
  10. Messe de Minuit by Etro
  11. 31 Rue Cambon by Chanel
  12. No 22 by Chanel
  13. Coco (in parfum) by Chanel
  14. Coromandel by Chanel
  15. Cuir Ottoman by Parfum d’Empire
  16. Lipstick Rose by Frederic Malle
  17. Iris Poudre by Frederic Malle
  18. Orchidee Blanche by L’Artisan Parfumeur
  19. Songes by Annick Goutal
  20. Le Jasmin by Annick Goutal

  22. Doblis by Hermes

Lovely list! However, the more Top 25 perfumes lists I read, the more stressed out I get that I’ll never have the time (or money) to sniff them all… There are so many classic perfumes I need to try, thank you for reminding me:)

I’m waiting till the last day (4/30?) to make my list. The problem is that I have to list them in order this year. AARGH! Love all the ones on your list. And laughed out loud when I saw Diorama on there. :-) Paint?

What a beautiful list!! We have several matches, but I love almost all of these! Making these lists is impossible. . .

  • 4. Marina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 8:18 am

Except for numbers 2, 4, 14, 16, and 22, thsi could be my list :-)

nice list! Most all of them could easily be on mine, even if I can’t personally wear them (Lipstick Rose and Iris Poudre are better left to others, alas)

Wonderful list! Three matches. I look forward to seeing your reviews of some of them. Have you reviewed Messe de Minuit already?

We share 1, 2, 16, 17, 19, 22, and 23. 31 Rue Cambon, too, when they finally release it in parfum! :) That’s eight out of 25 (though my order is different–I put Doblis right up at the top!). That’s pretty good, don’t you think?

    Beautiful list, Ina!

    Hugs!

Julia, I know how you feel but there’s always swapping on Makeupalley. That’s how I got to try so many perfumes. :)

  • 9. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 11:15 am

Elle, I still get paint in very top notes of Diorama but, yes, I do love it so now. *hangs head in shame*

  • 10. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 11:16 am

Judith, well, you and I could easily be fragrance twins. ;)

  • 11. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 11:16 am

Marina, peace to another fragrance twin! ;)

  • 12. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 11:17 am

Tom, ah, you have such exquisite taste. ;)

  • 13. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 11:17 am

Minsun, I wrote about MdM briefly in my Comfort Scents post (the link is on the list).

  • 14. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 11:18 am

Robin, that’s pretty darn good! I didn’t rank mine but if I had, Doblis would no doubt be in the top 5. Or 10.

Well, we have four the same, which is a little surprising to me, because I tend to think of you as liking warmer, darker scents than me. I often turn to your beautiful reviews when I think: “Well this is just beautiful, but so “not me”, so let’s go to someone who can properly appreciate it…” Just goes to show there is more common ground than real differences between perfumistas!

  • 16. Solander  |  April 17th, 2007 at 3:13 pm

Great list! Some of my loves (MKK, L’air de rien, Cuir Ottoman…), some of my likes, and some I’m dying to try.

  • 17. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 5:41 pm

Tigs, you just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you! :) I often get inspired by other perfumistas in the same way.

  • 18. Ina  |  April 17th, 2007 at 5:42 pm

Tove, what are you dying to try?

  • 19. Flora  |  April 18th, 2007 at 12:16 am

Interesting list - lots of non-florals, and some I have never tried or even seen! Your #23 sounds wonderful.

  • 20. Solander  |  April 18th, 2007 at 8:00 am

Ina - Oh, mostly the Guerlains and Diors I haven’t tried yet, I want to get to know the classics. The “Boises”, Eau Noire, Diorama, Guet-Apens…
