Perfume Review: Azurée Soleil By Tom Ford Estee Lauder

April 2nd, 2007

Azuree SoleilIn spite of my tirade yesterday, there is actually one fragrance amongst all those clones that isn’t a clone and that rocks my world - Azurée Soleil by Tom Ford Estee Lauder. Technically not a brand new scent, Azurée Soleil is a sequel to the much sought after Azurée Body Oil that came out last summer, the difference is in concentration - it’s eau fraiche. Intended as Tom Ford’s interpretation of the original chypre fragrance Azurée (1969) evocative of Côte d’Azur, the new Azurée Soleil completely does away with oakmoss giving preference to a more trendy concept - a tropical, beach floral with the suntan lotion vibe. As much as I love oakmoss, I could easily do without it in hot weather, Côte d’Azur or not. So I’m quite happy with Azurée Soleil and will be reaching for it a lot this summer.

Azurée Soleil starts out with the most sumptuous blend of Tahitian gardenia and coconut neither of each is overdone or excessive. For a light skin scent, it has a good amount of complexity and development. The heart is creamy and lush, with just a touch of jasmine and magnolia. On my skin, the drydown is all milky sandalwood with hints of caramel. Interestingly enough, Azurée Soleil doesn’t seem as tropical as Virgin Island Water by Creed. Perhaps it’s the absence of the aquatic accord in the former - Azurée Soleil is all about the sun and its interaction with skin. It’s the ultimate sunny, carefree, buoyant, all around feel-good scent for summer.

Azurée Soleil features the notes of Tahitian gardenia, coconut, orange flower, jasmine, magnolia, myrrh, bergamot, mandarin, amber, sandalwood, vetiver, caramel. It’s available at Estee Lauder counters and is very moderately priced.

This sounds ideal for both July and January (when I desperately need a scent to help me believe in the eventual return of warmth). And the price makes me smile as well. :-)

I soooo need a bottle. Waiting for my Macy’s here to get them.

I got a sample of this, and like the oil last year, adore it. I was so happy that they released this as just a scent, shows they pay attention! :)

How did I miss sampling this at the sniffa? It’s probably just as well since it doesn’t sound like a scent that I would reach for, even in the heat of summer, but it does sound like a well done little blend.

Elle, yes, it’s ideal for those months. :)

Marina, my local Macy’s has it already, you should check yours. :)

Minsun, well, at the Sniffa, this one would be very easy to miss, considering how many other more prominent scents you smell. :)

Patty, I didn’t love the oil as much, surprisingly. But I wonder how many MUA ppl actually wrote to Estee Lauder to request this to be released as a fragrance. We got the power! ;)

Will check it out on Friday, and am hoping it doesn’t have the musk that Virgin Island Water has in it. Summer fragrances can do quite well without musk.

SniffQ, I don’t get as much musk as in Virgin Island Water. Hope you like it!

This is the best new fragrance to come out in a long while and is a breath of fresh air to the ‘teenage fragrances’ that have been released lately.

I stumbled on to the fragrance a few weeks back and was blown away. It is subtle, yetit stays with you. Whilst shopping at my local Saks yesterday, I was told by the EL rep that due to Tom Ford parting ways with EL and launching his own bauty line, it will not be brought back again. I am not sure if this is true, and hope that it is not…

I absolutely love this scent. When I went to the local Macy’s and discovered that they no longer carried it, I was Mortified!!! I went to Beautyencounter and they said that it was out of stock. Please I need this scent because it is very unique and i get tons of compliments whenever I wear it. I heard about the fallout and I pray that Tom Ford can do this scent on his own……

i bought this fragrance last year and wore it the entire summer. everyone loved it and i thought to myself i had to buy it again. but of course eveywhere i looked it was out of stock. i was really sad about it cause it reminded me of the happy summer months..
but last month i found the body tint and even though i wasn t looking for it i bought it, just because it s also lightly scented.
and then.. a couple of weeks ago i could purchase the very last 50ml bottle at a department store in zurich!! :))
i hope someday when i used the last drop of my azuree soleil collection i ll find another scent that smells as heavenly as this one…

from the blog “the beauty alchemist”:

“Bronze Goddess is the new fragrance from Estee Lauder in the same vein as the beloved Azuree Soleil. Azuree Soleil was discontinued, much to the dismay of many, but I am here to tell you that Bronze Goddess more than makes up for it.

Bronze Goddess is actually very like Azuree Soleil, they share a lot but there is just enough difference to separate them. Bronze Goddess has a touch more citrus, and to me is a bit less creamy smelling. It is still a gorgeous skinscent, reminiscent of beach days spent in the sun. It still has that suntan lotion smell. Personally, due to the citrus, I am liking this new scent even more than it’s predecessor, and I really loved Azuree Soleil. I am totally loving this one too.

Bronze Goddess will come in a dry oil spray and a lotion as well as the Eau Fraiche.”

Yesterday i tried this scent at the estee lauder counter in a departement store in zurich. I have to say that bronze goddess smells a lot like azuree soleil (but not as good as :( ), if i hadn t enough of azuree soleil, i d buy this skinscent for summer. I don t know if it s a limited edition, maybe i ll get one bottle before it s gone for good.
