Friday Musings

March 22nd, 2007

It seems I’m going through the lemming-free stage which quite often feels rather uncomfortable and downright wrong. I don’t mind it as much this time, however. I have an indecent amount of samples sitting on my dresser, and I can’t seem to get around to conducting proper testing sessions. I fear they’ll just end up in the bottomless pit, i.e., my sample box, and their only chance for survival will be the luck of the draw for my Needle In A Haystack project (which, by the way, Marina and I are still planning to continue). Such are my fragrant musings for today. Nothing too profound, I’m afraid, but I won’t leave you famished (ha!). Here’s a potential Lemming Of The Year:

Iris GanacheIris Ganache, the new addition to the Guerlain’s L’Art et la Matière collection, due to be released this June. I’m practically salivating just typing this: “Iris Ganache reveals an iris butter “worked like a pastry ganache”. A mouthwatering scent, like “white chocolate shaded with floral notes” and enhanced with cinnamon, bergamot, patchouli, white musks, cedar and a slightly ambery vanilla note” (Osmoz.com). Can I just say I’ll tear all my hair out and scream bloody murder if it even so much as dares to disappoint? I’m not particularly fond of Thierry Wasser’s creations (Addict by Christian Dior, Hypnose by Lancome) but the man knows how to work the gourmand theme. I find comfort in the fact Iris Ganache was created in collaboration with Sylvaine Delacourte who heads fragrance development at Guerlain. Meanwhile, I should really work on those samples.

What are your fragrant musings for today?

I am really hoping this is not too sweet and sticky – I need a reason to love Guerlains, and their recent offerings just do nothing for me. I have not been impressed since Nahema in 1979, so this better be good….that was a long time ago.

Ina, I must admit I’m looking forward to this one too, white chocolate lover that I am… I loathe Hypnose (to me, the definition of a scrubber) but no Guerlain ever was a scrubber so I’ll be there at 58 Champs Elysées to sniff, that’s for sure!

I will try to adopt your optimistic attitude about this one, but in truth I get a little queasy just reading those notes. Neither white chocolate nor white musk fill my heart w/ joy when I see them in a list of perfume notes . But I *adore* iris and cinnamon and will try to focus on those and pray my skin chemistry will kindly block out those less loved notes.

I have over-mused yesterday and have no musings left in me at all. :-)

I am strangely unexcited about this Ganache scent. For some reason I think that it will either smell of something I already have or of something I won’t like. The Ganache part is what worries me.

I have to say, IG sounds frightening to me. But then, I hate chocolate in scents (which is odd, because I love to eat it). But I seem to remember that there were some other projected scents that sounded wonderful to me (an oud, maybe?)

I’m dying to try this one too. I love pretty much all of those notes. Well, except vanilla, but if it’s an ambery vanilla, that’s okay. It’ll be fun to read your review when you finally get your hands on it! :-)

I’m with winterwheat: I can’t wait to test this one, too. It’s sounds yummy. Even if I discover that I don’t like it, at least I will have satisfied that “itch.” :)

    Hugs!

Flora, you didn’t even like Bois d’Armenie or Rose Barbare? What a bummer. I sure hope this one will not disappoint.

Carmencanada, lucky you! You’ll have to report to us here, we’ll be waiting with baited breath. :)

Elle, something tells me this one will be really, really good. It has to be, darn it!

Marina, how funny, the ganache part is actually what excites me the most. A gourmand iris? It’s gotta be good.

Judith, the oud ones are oils, and they’re out already, in Paris. Super pricey, too.

  • 13. Ina  |  March 23rd, 2007 at 8:42 pm

Kris, I’ll take ambery vanilla any day! I just wish we didn’t have to wait till June…

Robin, the itch is getting worse by the minute. ;)
