Perfume Review: Cashmere for Men by Cristiano Fissore

February 18th, 2007

Cashmere for MenCashmere for Men is a mate to Cashmere for Women, created for an Italian luxury cashmere designer Cristiano Fissore. The scents are meant to represent cashmere, and I must say they accomplish that wonderfully. While the feminine version contrasts aldehydic floral notes with resinous woods, thereby representing cashmere as texture, Cashmere for Men seems to focus more on the feeling one gets when wearing cashmere. I simply cannot stop raving about these gems - such unique, well-blended compositions with the distinct touch of a master (but who is it? I so wish to know).

Cashmere for Men did quite an interesting trick on my skin: upon first application, apart from producing an instant “wow”, it reminded me of another scent. It didn’t take long to figure out which one - my beloved Bois d’Armenie by Guerlain. While Bois d’Armenie is all about smoky, spicy resins, Cashmere for Men is much more sheer, with more emphasis on soft woods, and hints of patchouli and vetiver. What I love about it is its honeyed woody accord - luxurious and comfortable at the same time, a true olfactory equivalent of cashmere.

Cashmere for Men features the notes of bergamot, rose bay, elemi, ginger, cedar, cashmere wood, guaiac wood, teak wood, vetiver, patchouli, amber, white musk. Despite its claim, the scent can very easily be worn by women.

Cashmere for Men is available at Luckyscent and Aus Liebe Zum Duft.

Ah! You know I love this one too. I don’t get Bois d’Armenie though, on me it is sort of more comparable to L’Eau du Navigateur, but without the “green coffee” and “smoke”. When I save up $$, I will buy this one for “DH to wear”

Marina, I don’t really get L’Eau du Navigateur similarity. Well, maybe without the green coffee… I was actually thinking the same thing - I’ll get this for Mr.Aromascope. ;)

Why why WHY don’t I get anything out of Bois d’Armenie?!?! When I was in NYC briefly recently I went to Guerlain at Bergdorf and sprayed it on liberally, thinking, okay, I need to drink from the source here ;-)

It’s pretty, but soooo light. I’m nuts, right?

On the other hand, I really liked the opening of their silly Nuit d’Amour (animalic) but it cools down fairly quickly.

This one sounds like something I want! I don’t know whether to be thankful or not that I am on a nobuy…

I was hoping my sample of this would arrive today and then realized it’s yet another Postal holiday. Am trying not to have unkind thoughts about the presidents at the moment. This sounds like it has my name all over it, maybe even more so than the one for women.

Oh, lord–do you realize that you once sent me a sample of this without trying it–and I, foolish girl, put it aside–(since I had so many things to try and didn’t know what this was). Now I can’t find it!!! I know it’s here somewhere! Well, since I will, eventually, have to send to LS for a sample of the women’s, I might just give up and get this as well. . . .

PS For Elle–I am mad not so much at the Presidents as at the unnamed people who decided at a certain point that all holidays would henceforth fall on Mondays. Sure, it’s more convenient and all, but I think it robs the holidays of a bit of their identity–and it obliterates the pleasure one would feel when, by incredible good luck, a holiday WOULD actually fall on a Monday or Friday (which I am old enough to remember).! Somehow, that seemed like much more fun!

    Elle, Judith-

Terrible to admit this but I am sooooo annoyed by the postal holiday: it’s keeping a purchase of two unsniffed SL’s away an extra day and totally messing with my netflix rotation.

Besides, I am old enough to remember when we got Washingtons and Lincolns birthday off. We did, didn’t we? It’s not just the Alzheimers?

I’m ordering a sample of both Cashmeres right this minute. This sounds like something (my husband and) I would have to own (maybe I’ll even let him try it).

March, you and your funny nose! ;) Quite the opposite here, Nuit d’Amour left me sort of indifferent.

  • 11. Ina  |  February 19th, 2007 at 11:41 pm

Minsun, samples aren’t included in no-buy, last time I heard. You can always thrive on them. ;)

  • 12. Ina  |  February 19th, 2007 at 11:41 pm

Elle, I think you’ll quite like both of them, actually. Beware.

  • 13. Ina  |  February 19th, 2007 at 11:42 pm

Judith, um, I don’t think it was me as I actually just got a sample myself for the first time. As for your thoughts on holidays, I heartily agree.

Tom, what a bummer! PO being closed is always the worst nightmare for a perfume addict. Hope you get your stuff tomorrow!

  • 15. Ina  |  February 19th, 2007 at 11:44 pm

Gaia, I think you’ll both very much love them. :)

  • 16. Judith  |  February 20th, 2007 at 8:30 am

Ina–yes, I am sure it was you. You threw in an unopened sample as a swap extra awhile ago; I asked you what it was, and you said “I don’t know; something I got from Lisa.” She must have given it to you as an extra, and you passed it on without trying it (or thinking about it much). I, in turn, tucked it away somewhere in the same manner. None of us had ever heard of it then, so the name made no impression (and you didn’t really “get” it on purpose, as in send away for it). But I would bet you $1000000000.

T–yes, I remember have both Presidents’ b-days off too; so much better than the generic Monday.

I am so in love with Cashmere for women! To hear that this one conjures the feeling of wearing cashmere, I must try it as well. I am so pleased that luckyscent got these magical scents. Thank you for reviewing Ina!

Judith, unbelievable!! I have no recollection. How long ago was it? ;)

Tamara, I adore Cashmere for women! The one for men is haunting me more and more.

  • 20. Aromascope » Stoned&hellip  |  March 21st, 2007 at 11:00 pm

[…] Before I dwell on the scent, I’d like to mention one peculiar fact about Stoned: it’s said to contain diamond dust. I’m not sure exactly what that means and how it affects the fragrance or why it’s even necessary in perfume. To be honest, I’m puzzled. Nevertheless, I choose to blindly follow my nose which declares over and over again its unconditional love affair with Stoned. It’s amusing at times to observe where your nose takes you. With Stoned, it took me to the paths well-traveled, so to speak, for I kept finding more and more similarities with some of my other favorite perfumes. This chameleon of a scent first resembled Voilette de Madame by Guerlain. Later it was Orchidee Blanche by L’Artisan. Then all of a sudden the drydown became almost a dead ringer for L’Air de Rien by Miller Harris. Upon further sniffs, I got Bois d’Armenie by Guerlain and Cashmere for Men by Cristiano Fissore. At this point you might say, “Forget it! It’s hardly worth it”, and you’ll be much mistaken for, despite its kindred spirit, Stoned is a scent of its own merit. Moreover, it’s multifaceted and multidimensional. The initial sweet, powdery notes of heliotrope and rose create a baby-powder-like effect but it doesn’t end there. The real transformation happens when labdanum and musk enter the scene - we get some animalic action. The drydown has a slightly dirty, mossy undertone which gives it a soft vintage effect. All that combined with the excellent staying power, truly funky bottle, and a hefty price tag makes Stoned unbelievably irresistible: you’re stoned indeed. […]
