Wednesday Randomness
February 6th, 2007
The germs that have seized my nose do not want to surrender. I did one initial testing of the Etat Libre d’Orange fragrances but more is needed for my final review (which I was hoping to post today but it will probably happen tomorrow). One amusing thing I observed: I can barely smell perfumes but I sure could pick up on the rotten egg smell coming from the neighboring apartment (which I assume was pot?) Anyways, for some more randomness, Style.com has Fall 2007 Ready To Wear collection up. My relationship to fashion is more of an insightful observer than an actual follower, explained by the fact that in my teen years I wanted to be a fashion designer and drew outfits endlessly. Here’re a few shots of my Fall 2007 RTW favorites so far. I’m not assigning perfumes this time but if you so desire, please do so!

Alexander Herchcovitch

Marc Jacobs

Max Azria

Nicole Miller

Pot doesn’t smell like rotten eggs. Its not a repulsive smell.

… though your cold could be warping it. I have caught a cold too (rats!) and Secretions Magnifiques has been smelling more like flowers, salt water and metal to me this morning… My nose is definitely off!

I hope you are feeling better soon, Inushka!

Yep, joining Bianca in defending the scent of pot. It definitely does not smell like rotten eggs.
Love the fashion eye candy! I’d definitely assign JS to the Alexander Herchcovitch or the Nicole Miller.

Oh, I like that Nicole Miller outfit, especially. Not sure which scent to pair it with though. Feel better soon!

Beautiful!
Feel better, Ina.
And hey, please post a copy of the Chicago Tribune article that featured you and your blog so that we can all read it.
:)
Hugs!

I could soooo wear that beautiful Marc Jacobs outfit to the office. Yum Yum
So sorry to hear you’re under the weather. Drink lots of fluids and try Zicam. I had good luck with it during my last cold.

Bianca, I obviously have no idea. Thanks for clarifying!

Leo, your nose is definitely off! SM is the vilest, most putrid scent ever. There’s just no politically correct way to even describe it.
Get well soon!

Marinushka, thanks! I’ll try!

Teri, first my DH, now you are telling me about Zicam. I really don’t like taking anything when I’m sick. I have to make myself. Zicam tastes awful!

I just have to jump in here. I rarely get colds myself, but I have been pushing the Zicam nasel gel product on my family for several years. Well, I got a duszy of a cold over the holidays…could not smell anything for almost a month. I was terrified that I had lost my sense of smell forever. Imagine my horror when my husband told me that he had read in Consumer Reports that repeated use of Zicam products in the nose can permenantly damage the sense of smell…due to the zinc in the product. I had been faithfully using this stuff every 6 hours or so….I did indeed panic!
My sense of smell came back just fine but I will not use the nose gel version of this stuff ever again. Drat! It does seem to help…so a warning of sorts…can you imagine what a tragedy this would be for us scent obsessed folks?!

Feel better soon!
All the outfits are great, although the Max Azria is probably a bit too flouncy for me to wear. I want the Marc Jacobs NOW! (And I will happily take the others as well:)

wow, patricia, I just now saw your post. Thankfully I only used the melt-in-your-mouth tablets which hopefully don’t have the same side effects as the nasal product. Granted, they do taste horrid, but then again, so does Cold-Eeze which I used to use. Colds usually rob me of my sense of taste anyway, so pretty much everything already tastes horrid.
I will definitely steer clear of the nasal product in the future, however. So glad to hear you bounced back, paticia, and that everything is a-ok.

Dear Ina,
I enjoy the break for fashion but I hope you get well soon! I echo the warning about that nose stuff. Beware perfumista!
20. Ina | February 8th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
Patricia, that’s pretty scary! Thanks for sharing. I’m not taking it because I cannot deal with the taste.
21. Ina | February 8th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
Chaya, I’m much better already! Thank you for taking such good care of me.
22. Ina | February 8th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
Judith, I wouldn’t wear that Max Azria one either but I thought it looked cool. I can see you in the Marc Jacobs one, though.
23. Ina | February 8th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
Teri, it is indeed freaky. I can’t do Zicam even in tablets.
24. Ina | February 8th, 2007 at 11:49 pm
Cait, thank you! I’m being careful with Zicam.

Pot as you call it is a very strong and almost pleasant smell. Sort of smell you either like or don’t. It never smells of rotten eggs.
Gas is treated with an oder of rotten eggs otherwise it’s oderless, the rotten egg smell is a warning so the next time you smell it that strongly, especially through a cold you should call the fire department and pray.

Gary, thanks for the info! We don’t have any gas in the building. The people nextdoor were definitely smoking something. It happened more than once this week, and other residents noticed it as well. It was definitely a party. At least now I know it wasn’t pot. Ha!
