Perfume Review: Bryant Park by Bond No 9

January 22nd, 2007

Bryant Park“The scent of New York’s frenzied fashionistas” is what Bryant Park, the newest offering by Bond No 9, claims to be. Inspired by Bryant Park of New York, home of the Fashion Week, its bottle design alone suggests a hip and trendy scent. The Pucci-esque motif as well as the choice of colors instantly put it right at the very top of all Bond No 9 bottles for me. I only hoped the scent wouldn’t disappoint, and I’m happy to say it does not. After all, in my world, the notes of rose, patchouli, pink pepper, lily of the valley, rhubarb, raspberry, and amber can only mean two things: it’s either really good or really bad.

Bryant Park strikes me as a very aromatic fruity floral. Its tart rhubarb and vibrant lily of the valley leave a very pleasant impression upon first sniff. Raspberry comes into play a bit later and pretty much dominates the composition. The drydown is sheer and colorful at the same time. Bryant Park resembles fragrant soaps that were extremely popular and very rare (people had to stand in long, aggravating lines to obtain them) back in the Soviet times when I was a child. We’d often place them in linen closets since using them for their actual purpose seemed like a huge waste. Ah, the momories! To compare Bryant Park to another scent, I’d say it’s along the lines of Hot Couture by Givenchy or Balkis by Parfums de Nicolai but a bit lighter. It certainly appeals to me more than West Side, and I might make room for it on my dresser.

Bryant Park is due for official release March 1. For more information, please check Bond No 9 Blog.

I have yet to love any Bond, and from the notes, despite rose being one of them, I doubt I will love this one, especially if raspberry is dominant. Thank you for the lovely review, nonetheless.

Huh. I’m afraid this one will cause the bell to ring loudly all the way over on the “Really Bad” side of my scent appeal meter. Sounds more Baby Phat than Pucci to me.

I had stood in those queues to :-) Having said that, i get no sopa in Bryant, not even a hint of soap.Which is great for me, because otherwise I wouldn’t have liked it. :-)

Well, I like the bottle–but it sounds to0 fruity-sweet for me (or I’m telling myself that to sustain my NO-Buy).

I love rhubarb and lily of the valley, am rather so-so on patchouli, and dubious of the raspberry. However, since I love that cute bottle, it tilts the pros ahead of the cons, and I’ll definitely by sniffing this one. :)

I smelled West Side yesterday – I can’t buy any of these because I’m always knocking the bottles over, like a klutz — they really love that at Saks :-)

Minsun, you never know! It’s such a pretty sheer raspberry-rose. You might quite like it. :)

Elle, it’s actually quite pretty. Definitely not Baby Phat like.

    Marina, tricks of skin chemistry!

Judith, it’s not too sweet. Not sure it’s your thing, though.

The bottle is tempting. The raspberry- not so much. But I’ll give it a try, for the sake of Pucci and patchouli ;-)

Gaia, I actually get no patchouli at all. Weird.

Bryant park is amazing!!! I didn’t get the rose until I sprayed it on my skin. It’s another wonderful perfume to my already growing collection of Bond. There are so many to choose from in the range that if you actually give it a chance you may just find one you love. It’s so much better then the rest of the crap on the market living of reputation then actual substance!!! I don’t care if someone famous wears it, if I like it and IT LASTS on the skin, then I will buy it!!
