Friday Randomness

November 17th, 2006

Yesterday was the coldest and windiest day in Chicago since summer ended but that didn’t prevent me from going out and meeting up with the coolest Jen aka Monkey Posh. Be sure to check out her blog where she’s raving about us running into Tim Gunn. She did most of the talking and hovering over the guy while I just stood there blinking and smiling happily (for the record, he shook my hand). I’ve only seen a total of about 2 Project Runway episodes, so I was just mostly mesmerized by Mr.Gunn’s exceptionally friendly demeanor. I swear I’m not just writing this for the sake of name dropping - today’s Friday, and I’ve sniffed enough this week to put my brain into a temporary stupor and for the life of me cannot get my thoughts together to write a review. Nothing wrong with occasional randomness, especially when it’s done fashionably. Ha! We did, however, get to smell a few things here and there, and I was absolutely astounded by the fact I’d never actually smelled Christian Dior’s super classy Eau Sauvage! Created in 1966 as the first Dior’s men’s fragrance, Eau Sauvage is a zesty citrus chypre that’s just so incredibly refined, timeless, and genderless that I almost slapped myself for not discovering it earlier. Now that I think of it, it’d be a perfect fragrance for Mr.Gunn.

Are there any fragrances you tried recently that made you want to slap yourself in a similar fashion? Happy weekend, all!

    Hi I ,

It was a nice despite the weather. Oh and I totally wrote my post for the sake of name dropping! HA.

I love my Eau Sauvage. When you schooled me on the perfumer and how he also did my beloved Parfum de Therese, that sealed the deal for me.

Thanks again for the fragrances and for helping me with my remedial skills on the el!
    Have a lovely day.

it was a nice DAY despite the weather. It is early and I am not quite awake yet. Sorry.

Still am an unattractive shade of chartreuse w/ envy that you got to meet Tim Gunn. Sigh. :-)
I wanted to slap myself when I finally tried vintage L’Air du Temps parfum after T. had been raving about it and realized it is *divine*. Not at all like the current insipid version. It was a gorgeous warm, soft, spicy scent. Reformulations are just evil.

Three, actually: Chanel 22 after Angela did her post. I haven’t tried the regular Chanels in forever. It was really, really good. Also (laugh away) the regular ol’ Bulgari Femme, or whatever the original is called. Okay, it’s not breaking any new ground, but dang! It’s a gorgeous, girly floral. Finally, Eau de Merveilles … why did it take me sooooo long to see its charms?

Definitely a perfect choice for Mr. Gunn. Ah. I am still not over it and hate you two just a little. I watch every episode of PR and YOU get to meet HIM. Is that fair? *pouts*

  • 6. Sara  |  November 17th, 2006 at 8:54 am

TIM GUNN!!!!!!!!! oh you lucky women. Eau Sauvage would be perfect for him as would Dior Homme. I wanted to slap myself when I finally got around to Shalimar parfum. Why did I wait? Love this stuff and it’s my next purchase.

  • 7. Patty  |  November 17th, 2006 at 10:23 am

You met Tim?!?!?!? Did you at least hug him for us? I’m so pea green.

I think Fridays are an excellent day to do something completely different (justifying in my head that I do silly gossip stuff every Friday). :)

  • 8. Todd  |  November 17th, 2006 at 10:54 am

    Name dropper!

Hey, for not knowing what to write about today that was a very good post, honey! Viva la randomness! (I’m so French.)

  • 9. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:01 am

Jen, the day was totally nice, except my hair! ;) Well, I sort of did the name dropping thing myself, just a bit more subtly. ;)

  • 10. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:02 am

Elle, I’m yet to fall in love with L’Air de Temps.

  • 11. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:03 am

March, Chanel 22 is divine, especially vintage. Bvlgari Femme is pretty, too, and my fave Eau des Merveilles is the parfum.

  • 12. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:03 am

Marina, it’s OK. I understand. *friendly pat*

  • 13. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:04 am

Sara, have you tried vintage Shalimar parfum? Beyond gorgeous.

  • 14. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:04 am

Patty, no we didn’t hug but he shook my hand. And Jen’s, too, but he also shook *my* hand.

  • 15. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:05 am

Todd, what are you doing here?? OK, I’m just kidding. ;) Well, you know me, I have no problem being random and writing about randomness…

  • 16. Tom  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:22 am

Hermes Eau d’Orange Verte (the one in the green bottle that used to not have a name). I’d grown so fond of ever more leather and skank the bottle migrated to the back of the closet. The other day I sniffed it again and *slap*. There’s a reason it’s been around for years, Tom

A friend of mine works at Bravo and lives a few blocks from Tim Gunn. She raves about him: says he’s the nicest, most helpful man in the business. Willing to do whatever for the show: publicity, podcasts, you name it and he’ll be there. A total Gentleman; she’d marry him in a minute.

  • 17. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 11:27 am

Tom, I’m afriad I’ve never given Eau d’Orange Verte a fair test! Thanks for reminding me.
    Mr.Gunn is a total gentleman, I agree.

Being the token Brit commenting here, I haven’t got the faintest idea what you people are waffling on about, but that’s nothing new.

Habit Rouge was mine. Hated the top notes previously, and this put me off the scent totally. I was a fool.

  • 19. Tom  |  November 17th, 2006 at 1:06 pm

    Leopoldo-

You don’t get “Project Runway” there? You should sue!

We probably do on some channel or other, but I’m sorry to say it’s not really my thing… (my gay streak is only so wide…). Though I did get into trashy ‘;Make Me a Supermodel’ here because there were a lot of good male torso shots. Cheap, I know. But someone has to be.

  • 21. Tigs  |  November 17th, 2006 at 1:34 pm

Leopoldo - Habit Rouge was one for me too. I tried it again just a little while ago and gave myself a credit-card-cut pulling the damn thing out of my wallet. (Why, oh why, do they make those card-holder pocket/slits so tight?) I, too, had forgotten about Chanel 22, but its not so easy to find here. Also, Silences. I have a lot of “what was I thinking?” moments…

  • 22. Marina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 1:58 pm

    I’d marry him in a heartbeat too…*sigh*

  • 23. violetnoir  |  November 17th, 2006 at 2:16 pm

Ina, I’ve watched Tim interact with the contestant’s on Project Runway, and he is always pitch-perfect. He uses just the right touch of friendliness, with a dash of appropriate professional boundaries. A class act all the way!

I think I need to slap myself for not appreciating SL Ambre Sultan until last Friday. What was I thinking???

    Hugs!

  • 24. Judith  |  November 17th, 2006 at 2:19 pm

    Very jealous! That is all:)

  • 25. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 2:22 pm

Leo, Habit Rouge is good. I call it Shalimar for men. :)

  • 26. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 2:23 pm

Tigs, Silences! You must own Silences. :)

  • 27. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 2:24 pm

Marina, that would be polygamy. ;)

  • 28. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 2:25 pm

Robin, yes, what were you thinking? Ambre Sultan is divine, and Tim is classy indeed.

  • 29. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 2:26 pm

Judith, I’m jealous of my own hand shaking his. ;)

  • 30. Victoria  |  November 17th, 2006 at 3:06 pm

I had no idea who he was until you told me the story, but now I am very very envious! :)

  • 31. Anjali  |  November 17th, 2006 at 5:19 pm

RIDICULOUSLY jealous of you Ina. You got to meet Jen AND Tim Gunn? I would have been insanely jealous of just one :)

  • 32. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 5:23 pm

    Vika, I guess I’m lucky. :)

  • 33. Ina  |  November 17th, 2006 at 5:24 pm

Anjali, it’s OK to be jealous once in a while. ;)

  • 34. chayaruchama  |  November 17th, 2006 at 8:39 pm

    I think I’m still shut out !
    I miss you, Ina…
