Perfume Review: Eau Suave by Parfum d’Empire

October 31st, 2006

Eau SuaveEau Suave is another excellent scent from the excellent Parfum d’Empire line that’s been rocking my world lately. It pays tribute to another historic character – the Empress Josephine and her passion for roses. In contrast to their other robust, “power” scents (Cuir Ottoman, Eau de Gloire, and Ambre Russe), Eau Suave is a delicate floral chypre, centered around saffron and coriander flavored rose. It is one of the most gorgeous rose perfumes I’ve ever smelled. I particularly enjoy its clever interplay with the spicy notes, as if flirting and letting them get really close, yet keeping a certain distance. It’s a rose, after all, and a rose it shall remain, no matter how many cavaliers she might have.

Eau Suave features the notes of pepper, coriander, saffron, rose, apricot, raspberry, peach, vanilla, musk. It opens up with radiant, aldehydic saffron and zesty coriander. The rose dominates the heart of the composition – it is dewy and honeyed, slightly tart with a hint of raspberry. It dries down to a luminous, soft, peachy rose. If I were to wax poetic, I’d say it’s a rose garden glowing with the morning sun, the petals covered with dew. In spite of its delectable, tender nature, it could very well be worn by a man. In fact, it’d smell simply irresistible on a man! The lasting power doesn’t disappoint – it’s a FBW (Full Bottle Worthy) scent all around.

Eau Suave is available at Aedes, Beautyhabit, and Aus Liebe Zum Duft.

P.S. If you like scents like Agent Provocateur, Guerlain Rose Barbare, Sisley Soir de Lune, you’ll like Eau Suave.

    Hello, Inushka-
    I second your emotions-
I would go so far as to say that I find the Empires to hold sway far above others, in their amazing ability to seamlessly combine quality materials into ravishing parfums with subtlety, personality, and exquisite individualism…

I’ve not sniffed Rose Barbare, but I’ll wager, that , for the price, you’ll not find more beautiful, lasting, and well-balanced fragrances that all deserve to be classics !

    There, I’ve done it…
Baby, help this old girl off her soapbox, would you ?
You know, I rarely rave and rant so unequivocally about a house like this.

[Funny- you must have been reading my mind...
I was doing a tutorial at Sak's yesterday pm w/ my girlfriend SA's- a mini-sniffa of sorts- and they were blown away by my Tauer samples, and Empires samples...
It lends credence to the theory that, if you show folks the good stuff, and explain it a little, they will love it...]

I’m writing this while staring at my wrists and hands in total disgust and annoyance. What is *wrong* w/ my skin? I love all those other scents you mention, I’m on a total rose kick these days, but this one just produced no magic on my skin. I’m going to have to say some sort of incantation and retry it. It *will* work..it *will*…..

I really love this one too! A gorgeous rose scent ! Thanks for the review Ina!

I agree completely. If I hadn’t spent enough to buy a car at the sniffa, I would kick myself for not trying/buying this one there. As it is, I am swapping for a decant and hiding my credit cards for a little while:)

Yea, you love it too! I got a sample of this about three weeks ago and, oh, is it ever FBW. Granted I have I thing for rose, but still…Now I must try AP. Lovely review. :)

Lord, is Eau Suave the greatest name or what? I’m not the world’s biggest fan of the frags you list, but I’ll try this one anyway…

Whta a lovely review! I promised to myself I would re-test the three Parfum d’Empire scent I am kind of meh about. I have a feeling I am so infatuated with Cuir Ottoman and Ambre Russe, I am just unable to appreciate the other three. :-)

Da*n, I am doomed. I had crossed this off my wishlist b/c moogie on that other site called it a green floral, which made me think of something like Jacinthe et Bolis. Now, I like Jacinthe et Bois, but I didn’t feel the need to sniff another one like it, especially at this price. However, your description has made my heart quicken, and back on my wishlist this goes. I don’t know whether to thank or curse you for this lovely review! ;)

Thanks for writing about this fragrance, your description makes it sound like it would be really great for me, has all the elements I wish for, roses, heat and gentleness…

  • 10. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:10 pm

Chaya, absolutely! It’s all a matter of being informed. Hence, it’s part of the reason I’m doing this blog – I want more people to know about true fragrant beauties out there. :) Oh, and you can rant or rave any time, dear.

Elle, I’m *very* shocked Eau Sauve isn’t working for you! Surely you must have the wrong sample?

  • 12. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:12 pm

Christina, thank you! I simply cannot resist the urge to get a bottle…

  • 13. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:12 pm

Judith, I’m pretty much in the same boat. Sigh.

  • 14. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:13 pm

Greeneyes, thank you! It’s just gorgeous.

  • 15. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:14 pm

March, it is an amazing name, isn’t it? Do try the fragrance.

  • 16. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:14 pm

Marina, I can almost guarantee you’ll love Eau Suave. :)

  • 17. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:15 pm

Newproducts, I don’t find it as similar to Jacinthe. I think you should bless me for this review. ;)

  • 18. Ina  |  November 1st, 2006 at 2:16 pm

Lucy, you’re welcome! Do try it when you get a chance. :)

    Hello,

I saw the add for Eau De Gloire in a fashion magazine. I’m not sure, but are those scents geared at both sexes—-[MALE/FEMALE]? I was not sure which of the 3 was geared toward men. Enjoyed reading your write up on the scents, as they were very informative . You certainly have the power to arouse the curiousity of a person.(SMILE)! Trinity!

  • 20. Ina  |  December 18th, 2006 at 1:19 am

Trinity, I believe they’re geared to both men and women. Eau de Gloire is probably more masculine than the others but still quite wearable for a woman. Thank you!
