Perfume Review: Nuit d’Amour by Guerlain

October 1st, 2006

Nuit d'AmourNuit d’Amour is the newest addition to the exclusive Guerlain perfume line that is released in a limited number of 500 ml Baccarat flacons of parfum and 60 ml atomizer bottles of eau de parfum (last year’s release was Plus Que Jamais). It’s said to contain the notes of lychee, pink berries, rose, jasmine, iris, violet, musk, sandalwood. Needless to say, it was greatly anticipated, not just for its exclusivity but also due to the fact of being quite smitten by the beauty of Plus Que Jamais. Having said this much, I find myself stuck and void of descriptive words but let me give it a shot.

The Night of Love in my rather romantically challenged imagination would smell of lushness, devotion, silkiness, adoration, intensity, caress, depth… It would most certainly not smell of a berry-fruit potion which is what Nuit d’Amour turns out to be. Pretty, inoffensive fruity-floral, with a slightly honeyed, luminous drydown that reminds me of Indian summer season and relaxing strolls along alleyes covered with golden-yellow leaves. In contrast to last year’s Plus Que Jamais with its voluptuous, ample shape, it’s a carefree, dreamy adolescent that aspires to be many things but has yet to achieve them. Dreaming of love, not quite experiencing it. To give it justice, however, it does stand out in the crowd of fruity-florals released these days – it’s distinct and well-blended and perhaps not easily forgotten. As for its exclusivity and a hefty price tag, hmm…

Nuit d’Amour is currently available directly from the Guerlain flagship store in Paris.

    Well, my beauty-
    Thanks for the review…
    You’ve certainly saved me a bundle !

I’m sure it’s pretty, but I’m longing more for warmth, and veils of spices, animality, and cognac these days.

Gotta keep body and soul together…

    Kisses to you !

Fruit salads are taking over the exclusives and the expensives! Lychee, pink berries…sounds like one of those “fragrances” Guerlain releases every year, you know the ones, with cartoon girls on the boxes. Ugh.

Oh, how disappointing. This sounds just awful for something with such a great name. Thanks for saving me some $$$ on this! I like my fruity florals just fine, but not at that price tag

Excuse me. I have to go lie down and sob into my pillow. Where is my SKANK?! I ask you. We’ve had, what — PQJ, Insolence, Armenie… it’s time for something volupte already.

That bottle is really something, though. I try to focus on the positive harhar.

I agree with Cait: the bottle is stunning. I have a big blow-up photo of it in my office.

However, the fragrance itself, the most important aspect, sounds less than stellar.

Chaya, I’m longing for the same things.

Marina, I know, enough of fruit salads!! Fruit salad is fruit salad even in fancy baccarat bottles.

Patty, it’s lovely for sure, just a bit too overpriced.

    March, exactly!

Christina, yes, as a collector, it’ll be an invaluable addition.

  • 13. Ina  |  October 2nd, 2006 at 9:22 pm

    Cait, yes, it is. :)

Robin, the juice just doesn’t quite match that bottle.

Your final “hmmm…” pretty much summed up my feelings as well. :-)

Well, having just fallen in love with the unreachable Voilette de Madame (the person who caused this calamity knows who she is:), I am very glad to hear that I don’t need to think about this one:)

Elle, great minds and all… ;)
