Perfume Review: Teint de Neige by Lorenzo Villoresi
September 19th, 2006
The approach of fall put me in the noir mood and made me crave heavy floral/spicy oriental scents many of which have been reviewed here. As is always the case, my nose tends to get tired of such richness and asks for lighter perfumes. An apple-pear bake was cooking in the oven last night, and its tantalizing smell was following me everywhere. That, combined with whiffs of seriously cold fall air seeping through a barely open window put me in the mood for cozy comfort scents. In utter contrast to the noirness, I thought of Teint de Neige (Color of Snow) by Lorenzo Villoresi. No, I’m by no means craving snow (in fact, I’d be happier if it never came this year or at all, for that matter). I’m craving fluffiness.
Teint de Neige is created by Lorenzvo Villoresi, a reknown perfumer from Florence, Italy (if you’d like to find out more about him, I highly recommend reading the interview on the Now Smell This blog). It’s said to convey “the delicate rosy hue of a powdered face” of the belle époque era as well as the scent of “perfumed powders” and “the perfume of talc”. I must say it renders that impeccably and could easily be called The Powder of All Powders in perfume. Upon first application, the scent is a bit overpowering with rose and jasmine and powder. As it dries down, the powder gets sweeter and fluffier. In the very drydown, the powder is still there but sort of subdued by honey and almond, not as talc-like any more but rather balm-like. It’s ball dress elegant and fuzzy slipper cozy at the same time, so you can pull it off on pretty much any occasion. The key is to apply with a light hand (a couple of sprays would suffice) - there’s a very fine line between French splendor and baby diapers.
The scent features the notes of rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, heliotrope, vanilla, almond, musk, honey, amber.
Teint de Neige is available at Your Cosmetics, Lafcony, The Perfume Shoppe, Aedes as well as Aus Liebe zum Duft. It comes in eau de toilette and parfum (which I’m dying to possess).

Good morning, my dear-
This sounds soft, girly, and lovely…much along the lines of Etro Heliotrope, and Loukhoum…is that the case?
Comfort is NOT to be underestimated, in these perilous, stressful times.
Sometimes, soothing oneself enables us to then soothe others, in turn…
Love you !

Hi Ina,
I simply love, love, love Teint de Neige!!! I can´t think of any other fragrance that I wear that often without getting tired of it.
You´re absolutely right, a few sprays are sufficent since it´s a rather strong scent that lasts on me all day.
By the way: I´d love to have the parfum, too, that must be heaven

After you mentioned TdeN last night, I put it on before going to bed. In the beginning I thought, oh yeah, that hit the spot. It was just what I wanted too, “fluffy”, as you say. But then, as is always the case with TdN (and I should have remembered that!) it gave me such raving headache. I don’t know what is it in it that makes me hurt like that.
DH sniffed it and I asked what it smels like…he thought and then said, powdery. ..Well, duh!

I sort of got stuck on “…cold fall air seeping through a barely open window.” Sigh. Combine that w/ the smells of your apple bake and your apt. last night sounds even better than TdN - which I love for the honeyed dry down. It really is the quintessential perfume for those times when fluffiness is required.
However, I only rarely need that and the beauty of TdN for me is how well it layers w/ spicy or dark, woodsy scents.

Beautiful review! I love many LVs–and I normally like powdery scents, but I remember this as just TOO powdery-sweet for me. I have a decant, so I will try again sometime when I am seeking comfort, but I’m not very hopeful.

Chaya, Etro Heliotrope is very mild compared to this, and KM Loukhoum is gourmand, syrupy sweet powder whereas TdN is not as gourmand. Hope this helps! I love TdN the best out of all powder scents. Well, I also love Orchidee Blanche but that’s not as powdery as TdN.

Malena, I’m glad you love it, too! I can’t wait to try the parfum. It’s just haunting me.

Marina, I’m sorry! Yikes! Not good. It’s never given me a headache, so I’m not sure why you have this reaction. Your DH was smart. When I put it on last night, I heard a vibrant, “It smells like diapers in here!!”

Elle, believe it or not, I haven’t even tried layering it with anything yet. You’ll have to give me some ideas.
P.S. The apple bake is almost gone.

Judith, yes, knowing your taste, I can see how it might not quite win you over.
Well, maybe in very minuscule amounts it might. But I wonder if parfum is superior.

This is one I must remember to apply with a light hand. Otherwise, like Marina, it gives me a headache. That’s not the comfort feeling I’m going for!

Somehow I’ve failed to sniff this! I will have to remedy that. It doesn’t sound like me, exactly, but you never know…

Iris, I’ve never gotten a headache from it but light application is definitely needed.

i love this perfume to go to the gym. i get tons of compliments how i smell. people always ask me what i am wearing.
my family hates the smell of the perfume. they always are asking me what am i wearing. therefore the use for gym and the dentist, the girls at my dentist office also love it. i guess it is only my famlly that does not care for it. it is the best perfume when you feel you do not want to be wearing a perfume because it is so subtle.
extremely recommend, in fact i just bought another bottle.
