Chypre Rouge Notes

July 31st, 2006

Osmoz.com finally posted official notes for Chypre Rouge, the newest Serge Lutens creation. They are: thyme, pine needles, honey, beeswax, jasmine, fruit gums, patchouli, moss, amber, musk, vanilla. VERY surprised it has jasmine! I get none! So, where’s the caramelized pecan note? I so wish I got more of the pine needles-honey-moss-amber. Sigh.

I wish you got more of it, too, Ina…double sigh…

Have you had a chance to try it yet, Robin?

No, but would love to try when it arrives in the States. I’m not a big SL fan ( < ) because most of his fragrances do not work well with my body chemistry. However, I always test them when I can.

Honey — no wonder Patty hated it! I’m trying to fit the rest of that in with my impressions…

Robin, I’m not sure you’ll like it then but definitely worth a try.

March, first I thought you called me “honey”. ;) I got no honey, though.

Actually, I call people Honey all the time, so it IS confusing.

Okay, here is my twisted theory about Chypre Rouge — have I shared it with you already? If so, sorry. Chypre Rouge is the Serge Lutens for people who have failed to find another Serge Lutens to love. There’s some sort of reverse-chemistry thing going on there. It is … wait for it … probably my favorite SL. On me it is all about the weird, black, tarry woods yadda yadda. It’s strange AND beautiful. But most of the SLs I admire more than enjoy…

I can see what you mean, March. I find elements from various of his scents all blended into one in CR. Perhaps that’s the reason it doesn’t click with me. I do love most of his creations with a passion.

Yes,Ina I see and smell what you mean: Chene, Miel de Bois, Cedre, Bois et Fruits, Arabie, Santal de Mysore…thery are all in there! But the wonderful blacktea note in CR could be more pronounced, Serge, why not go for a real strong teatime next, I´ll be so delighted!

Peppernuts, what a great idea! I bet he’d make a superb tea scent.
