10 Hottest Chicks in Perfume Ads

July 27th, 2006

NOTE: it has just come to my attention that this post does NOT look as intended. Please hit the Refresh button on your browser to see the right layout. Thank you!

Marina from Perfume-Smellin’ Things and I have decided to take a break from writing reviews and instead focus on the marketing side of things, namely, perfume ads. She’s already done a highly amusing post dedicated to perfume ads here. However, so much more can be said on the subject that she came up with another idea - Perfume Ads That Make You Go… “How You Doin’!” - Hitparade of Hottest Guys in Perfume Ads (copyright Colombina), and I offered to add some hormonal balance by doing a 10 Hottest Chicks in Perfume Ads. Let’s see what we have here:

Beautiful

Um… what’s the rush, and why are so many people following her? I figured it must be because she’s hot! It’s as if she’s saying, “I’m so beautiful I want to run away on the beach! I’m beautiful! I’m gorgeous! Carry me away!” Call me a cynic but this just makes me gag.

Lagerfeld

“What are you looking at? I don’t have your credit card. Go home, hombre”. I know this is a totally nonsensical caption but so is the ad. The chick is hot, though.

Love In Paris

Love in Paris. The name implies so much - romantic strolls along the Seine, gazing into each other’s eyes in cute coffee shops, kissing on top of the Eiffel Tower, perfume shops (perfume shops!!)… It’s gotta be hot! Somehow this chick is the epitome of all things boring, though.

Marc Jacobs

Anorexia alert! She’s so hot she’s sweated all of her weight off.

Dolce & Gabbana

OK, this one is a true hottie, with the knife and all. Don’t mess with her. She’s got some fruit, and she knows how to use it. Side note: this ad really does not match the perfume.
Monteil

I’m not sure what went wrong here. Either the perfume threw her into utter despair or she just plain suffers from indigestion. In any case, this is clearly the opposite of hot but I threw it in here just for the kicks.

Parfum D'Hermes

How you doin’! Huh? HUH? This is an ad for Parfum D’Hermes, folks. The one that was shamelessly reformulated into today’s Rouge. A big fat “WHY?” is all that comes to mind when I think of it, and when I look at this ad. WHY?

Puma

“I can beat this dude, and I have dinner cooking at home in a crockpot”. Hot!

Rive Gauche

This one is priceless. A phone hottie.

L'Interdit

And this… This is true beauty. True beauty is not about being hot. She surpasses them all. And she’s not a chick.

Err….. as I was scrolling down, and before I really focussed, the first thing that sprang to mind when the Lagerfeld ad came into sight was: is she sitting on the pot? And even in focus she might well be…. How did that get by politically correct self-censorship?

By the way: The hottest perfume gal ever was Sophie Dahl in nothing but YSL……

Seriously, how many people had to give their stamp of approval to some of these ads? Obviously, it was all men for the Rive Gauche ad. And, again, some former frat boy for the Parfum d’ Hermes who NEVER smelled that most elegant of perfumes, but was apparently just lost in fond memories of a totally wasted party girl who was hanging upside down from…from what?…a keg?? A chandelier? Who knows. But I do wonder what ticked off person got the idea for the menacing D&G ad. Some woman or man w/ an errant boyfriend? Great picks!!! Started my day laughing out loud.

    What fun!

Indeed, it had to be gents who dreamed those up-

My picks are clearly arm-wrestling mama [needs bigger arms!] and the inimitable Audrey-[beautiful inside AND out!]

I enjoy your sense of whimsy- have a fine w/e, and some well-earned respite-

  • 4. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:16 am

Dinazad, I have no idea how that ad made it. The whole thing is just so bizarre. Yes, I did see those ads of Sophie Dahl but figured I’d show some censorship. ;)

  • 5. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:17 am

Elle, that’s the ultimate question - what, if anything, is she hanging from? AND WHY?

  • 6. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:17 am

Chaya, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Have a great weekend, too!

Well, these were interesting … I notice that many of these women are not particularly pretty, and several are very, very thin. (I think the phone hottie is gorgeous, though.) Where are the gorgeous women of fragrance today? I never really LOOK at the ads, and now I’m trying to remember … I think the ones associated with cosmetics lines have celeb/models who tend to be beautiful.

  • 8. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:42 am

March, I agree! Where are all the gorgeous women? I’m thinking of Guerlain Insolence ad and shudder.

  • 9. Marina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:51 am

The runaway bride, the sullen potty girl…hilarious…and sad.
Thank you so much for putting the wonderful Audrey in the end :-)
    This was great fun!!

  • 10. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:56 am

Marina, thank YOU! You put me to it! ;) Immensely enjoyed yours.

  • 11. IrisLA  |  July 28th, 2006 at 9:46 am

Thanks for a fun read today! For class and beauty, Audrey easily beats them all.

  • 12. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 9:48 am

Iris, thank you! It was my pleasure! :) Yes, Audrey beats them all.

  • 13. Judith  |  July 28th, 2006 at 10:25 am

These are wonderful! Now, let’s see if this works:
Here’s one I actually find sexy:

    and one I don’t (I mean, I know it’s their trademark and it’s supposed to be funny, but still. . . ):

  • 14. Judith  |  July 28th, 2006 at 10:26 am

Didn’t work! guess it wasn’t allowed. sorry:(

  • 15. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 10:28 am

J., did you try to post a link? It should work! Try again!

  • 16. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 10:38 am

Nope, the links won’t post. But, in case ppl are interested, J. was referring to the Agent Provocateur ad with a couple women on it as Sexy, and Moschino Cheap and Chic ad with a woman holding a pink somethingorother to her face - as a non-sexy. ;) Both can be found on the Parfumdepub.net site.

  • 17. Elle  |  July 28th, 2006 at 10:51 am

Went and found those ads. Good choices by J.! The Olive Oyl one is mystifying. NOT sexy. The AP people obviously know what women like.

  • 18. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 10:55 am

    Agree with Elle! ;)

  • 19. Judith  |  July 28th, 2006 at 11:08 am

I can’t figure out on the Olive Oyl one if she is supposed to be giving us the finger (wrong one though), or if that is just picking up on the phallic nose motif (not mutually exclusive choices, of course:)

  • 20. greeneyes  |  July 28th, 2006 at 12:03 pm

That Givenchy ad is so simple and stunning. Where are the icons that don’t have to sell sex to be stunning?

That said, I like the red head on the phone…if I couldn’t be Audrey, I’d be that girl. I like the naughty privacy of it. ;-)

  • 21. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 12:07 pm

Greeneyes, you crack me up! ;)

  • 22. violetnoir  |  July 28th, 2006 at 2:33 pm

You didn’t post the J’Adore one with Carmen Cass in the pool. Now that’s…wet! LOL!

    Hugs!

  • 23. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 2:46 pm

Robin, I was actually thinking about it! LOL! Hugs back!

  • 24. Katie  |  July 28th, 2006 at 7:09 pm

I have always thought one of most effective ads was the old Tresor one with Isabella… she’s simply beautiful, and yet not emaciated and looking like she’s strangely posed.

I don’t know why, but that old Beautiful ad always made me think they’re not running behind her, they’re chasing her down like she’s a shoplifter ;)

  • 25. Ina  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:17 pm

Katie, I’ll have to find that Tresor ad. I think I know which one it is. LOL at the running lady! Totally!

  • 26. Katie  |  July 28th, 2006 at 8:18 pm

I am sure you know which - it was rather iconic in a way, I think. Of course, I am STILL bitter that Lancome dropped her. If I was going to pick any of these ladies that are in the modern perfume ads as a beauty icon to emulate, it’d be her.

[…] Several months ago, Marina from Perfume-Smellin’ Things and myself did a joint post on Hottest Guys and Hottest Chicks in perfume ads. That was a fun project! Today I take a more serious stance - I’ve selected some of my most favorite perfume ads for your viewing pleasure. […]
