Recent Discoveries

July 19th, 2006

Do I weigh less with one kidney? In today’s post I’d like to share with you some of my most recent perfume discoveries. When I say most recent, I mean the last week or so, and when I say discoveries, I mean the ones that made you go, “Wow! I’m selling my kidney to buy this!” So, here are some of mine:

Divine L’Homme Sage - smokey, leathery sage on the base of woods, with a touch of immortelle. A come-hither-I’ll-knock-you-off-your-feet scent.

Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Magnolia Pourpre - magnolia, lavender, jasmin, rose, white orchid. Gorgeous white floral! Lovers of L’Artisan Orchidee Blanche or soapy florals in general, this is an absolute must try.

Annick Goutal Eau de Charlotte - lily, blackcurrant buds, mimosa, cocoa, vanilla. If there’s ever a fruity floral that thinks outside the box, this is it. Cheerful, velvety goodness.

L’Artisan Mechant Loup - I know. Shame on me! Where have I been? Just look at the notes: hazelnut, honey, sandalwood, myrrh. A turtleneck sweater scent.

Santa Maria Novella Eva - a perfect balance of citrus and spices. Citrus, Italian bergamot, black pepper, vetiver. A summer road trip with car windows rolled down scent.

What are your recent discoveries? After all, I still have one more kidney left.

Love all of those! Did you not get the little kick of leather in Magnolia Pourpree? And Eva is one of the most sophisticated citrus scents I’ve ever smelled - Grace Kelly in a To Catch a Thief is my instant visual w/ it.
I’m sadly deficient in brand spanking new favs. My only ones are CB’s Pipe Tobacco and Jacques d’Horcourt Malandrin. The CB is exactly like walking into heaven, i.e. a tobacco shop. Swoon. The Malandrin is a sample sent to me by a friend. It’s a stunnning vintage floral (to my nose jasmine, rose and iris) and I can find *no* information about it or its maker on the net and there is none on ebay. Cruel. Very.

Brain. Not. Functioning. Yet. Yatagan and Eau de Reglisse?? How could I forget???

Well, I love the Divine and the big bad wolf. Charlotte is too–something–on me. Still need to try the MPG (sounds great) and the Eva.

Talk about being out of it! My most recent discoveries are discontinued scents that everybody but me probably knows about! I got to sample them thanks to SOMEONE’S generosity:

Laura Biagotti Venezia: How did I miss this?? Fabulous oriental with tobacco. Of course it’s expensive. I’m told the dupes (AL, SSS) are quite good, but there’s part of me that always wants the orig. And i just tasted the EdT! Wonder what the parfum (with gold flakes) is like (besides ridiculously expensive? Absolutely swoonworthy!

Ralph Lauren Safari: great greenish chypre with flowers, woods. Perfect for this weather. And cheap! Who woulda thunk it, Ralph?

None, too busy! But I bow to your great taste in Eva. It is to me just the quintessential happy fragrance, right down to its little cute name.

The biggest hurray from me goes to Magnolia Pourpre, which I think is lovely and, like many of MPG scents, so underappreciated.

What did I discover last week or so? Dior Dior, Fleurs de la Foret…

Elle, no didn’t get any leather in MP. *gives Elle a suspicious look* Pipe Tobacco sounds divine. Must try soon! Will pretend I didn’t just read about Malandrin. ;)

Judith, Venezia is gorgeous! I used to have the EDP but ended up swapping it. Why? I have no logical answer. It’s so hard to find these days. *smacks herself on head* I just tried Safar in parfum a week ago - lovely drydown!

Patty, I fell in love with Eva thanks to you! ;) Have a fun vacation!

Marina, I can’t wait to read your reviews of Dior Dior and Fleurs de la Foret. :)

Ina, Eau de Charlotte, especially the EdP version, is delectable! I love AG fragrances. My sister wears nothing but AG’s fragrances.

Speaking of which, I guess you could say that Songes (there I go again!) and Des Lys are two jewels that I discovered in the not too distant past.

I am testing MH Coeur D’Ete today, and I must say, that this one is pretty lovely. It smells like a newborn baby’s fresh and fuzzy head. Oh, how I love the smell of breast fed babies!

    Hugs!

Robin, I haven’t tried Des Lys yet but now I must find a way to do so. I love the smell of babies, too. ;)
