Roma by Laura Biagiotti
June 23rd, 2006
Today I’m wearing Roma by Laura Biagiotti. Roma falls under the category of largely underrated perfumes. Well, I must quickly add that the category applies to myself only since I imagine it was quite popular back in 1988 when it came out but I was merely a fifth-grader then. So, why underrated? Simply because it’s been sitting in my drawer for about two years now, and I’ve only worn it twice, today being the second time. Now that I think of it, maybe I should make Friday as an official Underrated Perfume day (what do you think, guys?) Back to Roma. It features the notes of pink grapefruit, bergamot, black currant, mint, jasmine, rose, lily of the valley, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, musk, patchouli, oakmoss, and civet. There’s no way my nose detects all of them but it certainly picks up on grapefruit-bergamot-jasmine combo on the sandalwood-amber-oakmoss base. The effect is quite peppery, even leeather-like, slightly spicy, with warm undertones. I have the eau de toilette (with excellent staying power), and now I can’t help but wonder if this was ever made in parfum. If you love scents like Fifi Chachnil, Calvin Klein Obsession, and Must de Cartier, you must give this a try!
Roma can be found at Imagination Perfumery, Parfum1, Scentiments as well as other online discount perfume sites.

This has long been one of my favorite women’s fragrances, an exceptional oriental that is, as you suggested, hugely overlooked and under-rated! Love it! The men’s Roma is just as intoxicating.

Hi, Marlen! Good to see you here!
I don’t think I’ve tried the men’s version but now you got me intrigued. I remember adoring Laura Biagiotti Laura, too, back in the days of aquatic florals. Must revisit it soon.

I used to love this. I swear I think Fifi is its illegitimate sister. You’ve now got me determined to find out if it was ever made as a parfum.

I absolutely adore the drydown. It’s so ambery and spicy. I bet parfum would be gorgeous.

I think Underrated Friday is a great idea!
Now, tell me, if I LOVE Fifi and HATE Obsession and Must…will I like this?

Yes, you will! I don’t care for Must and Obsession myself. You can find Roma very cheap on ebay but you already knew where to look.
OK, let’s do Underrated Friday!

This is one of the heavier fragrances that I think works well during the summer. Right now, I’m wearing an underrated fragrance:)

Yes, it does. What are you wearing? I’m very curious.

You know, I have not tried Roma recently, other than a whiff from your bottle. It sounds beautiful!

I can include some in your package. Must remember not to forget.

Well, I didn’t dare pronounce its name (that of the perfume) because I am still under the shock of having found such a perfect (for me) fragrance; it’s like love, you don’t dare reveal your emotions too soon. I mean that this one has HG status. The best part is that I did not like it the first time I tried it! It’s Hervé Leger by Hervé Leger in edp. It’s an unbelievable fragrance.
Now that it is confirmed that I adore ylang + heliotrope + sandalwood I MUST try Jil Sander no.4 that you introduced March to.

Oh, I’ve been meaning to retry Herve Leger! Must do that soon. Yes, definitely smell Jill Sander #4. It reminds me of Divine by Divine.
