Gianni Campagna Scents

June 14th, 2006

Gianni CampagnaI just spotted new additions at the Aus Liebe Zum Duft online shop - perfumes by Gianni Campagna, a famous Italian tailor. The line features the following perfumes: Bergamotto, Galsomino, Neroli, Quaeri, Scilla Cariddi, and Vento Canale. Try as I might, I wasn’t able to translate them all (any readers that speak Italian are welcome to do that in comments). I wasn’t able to find more information other than they’re unisex scents. It also appears they come in really funky-looking bottles, and I can’t figure out how they work. Hmm.

Bergamotto is of course Bergamot, a citrus that grows in southern Italy, especially in Calabria and Sicily, Gelsomino is Jasmin (like bergamot, is cultivated in Sicily), Neroli is the flower of orange (typical of Sicily), Quaeri is a latin word, I think it means “I searched, I asked” (the pronunce is similar to the english “query”) but I don’t know how it could be related to Sicily, Scilla and Cariddi are the names of two monsters in ancient local mythology and after those of two dangerous sea currents in the channel that divides the continent from Sicily (the “stretto di Messina”), Vento Canale means “Channel wind”, it’s the name of a wind that tempers the heat during summer in Messina. I bet Mr.Campagna is sicilian..
Hope my english is not so funny :-)

Thank you, Neeta! I was only able to get the first three. :) Yes, Mr. Campagna is Sicilian. Thank you so much for your comment, and don’t be silly, your English is FAR from funny! :)
